Lolita's Libido by Buffonia
Dawn pushed the cereal around in the bowl, sighing at the soggy sweetened corn puffs. Buffy eyed her sister and noted the discontent that riddled the teen's face.
"What's wrong?" Buffy asked. Admittedly, it lacked a good segue way, but it was short and to the point.
Dawn didn't look up, she just kept staring at the swimming cereal bits, as if in a trance. "No thanks, I'm good..."
"Are you talking to me or Captain Crunch?" Buffy mused.
"Huh?" Dawn finally raised her confused gaze from her breakfast.
Buffy gestured to the cereal. "Am I interrupting something?"
Dawn released the spoon and slumped in her seat with a furrowed brow, like she wanted so say something or throw up, Buffy hoped it wasn't the latter. "Buffy, can we talk?"
Oh good. "Of course. What about?"
Dawn bit her bottom lip before answering. "Sex."
Puking didn't seem so bad anymore. And as Buffy's stomach fell into her feet, it didn't seem like it was that far from becoming a reality. "Oh- uh- sure. What about...sex."
"Well, I—"
"You're not having it right?" Buffy cut her sister off, a panicked expression on her face. "I mean, I-I need more time. To read books and stuff on how to explain it to you."
Dawn looked at Buffy as if her sister had grown horns.
"N-not that I don't know how to have...the sex," Buffy continued. "It's just that I don't know how to give the sex...talk."
"Okay first, duh. Secondly, me and mom had the birds and bees talk after HBO's free trial weekend last year," said Dawn. "But I need advice."
Buffy raised a brow.
"Not diagram advice, just sisterly advice," she explained. "Janice is having sex with her new boyfriend and I want to know what you think is too young. To, you know, do it."
Buffy wrinkled her nose and thought about it for a minute. "I think that you'll know when you're ready."
"So if I felt ready tomorrow it would be okay?" Dawn asked innocently.
"No! You're only fifteen!" Buffy exclaimed in horror.
"B-but you just said that I'd know..." Dawn's features grew puzzled.
"Yes but when you're fifteen you don't know if you know...you know?"
"Gee, I'm glad I have you here to take all those shades of gray and remove any trace of color," Dawn said dryly.
Buffy sighed. "Look it's just that, you're too young. When you're fifteen..."
"And a half," Dawn added huffily.
"Okay, when you're fifteen *and a half* you just can't...well you're not..." Buffy was lost for words. "It's just wrong."
"Why?"
"Because...because the law says so," said Buffy.
"So now you're saying the law knows when I'm ready to have sex?"
"Yes?" answered Buffy weakly. "There's that age limit thingy."
"Do you still think I believe Angel lost his soul because you were a great kisser...when you were *seventeen*?" Dawn snorted. "I think the law frowns upon a 200 year age difference, even if the guy ages well."
Damn. "Okay so the law is a stupid reason why you shouldn't have sex," admitted Buffy. "But there are just too many risks that you shouldn't take at your age. Like pregnancy."
"What if I wanted to have sex with a vampire?" Dawn countered.
"Well you shouldn't be having sex with vampires." Buffy paused. "Unless they have a soul or...something that's like a soul because it makes them non-evil. And I think Angel is one of a kind, and I don't want you sleeping with my ex-boyfriend."
"So I can have sex with Spike?"
Buffy's eyes widened. "Ew, no!"
"Whatever." Dawn rolled her eyes. "He likes you anyways."
Buffy sighed in relief, thankfully dodging that fun bullet.
"What about girls? They won't make me pregnant."
"No they won't. But..."
"So I can have sex with girls but not guys?"
"I-I didn't say that, I mean, it isn't that-I just I-," Buffy spluttered. She took a deep breath. "Sex isn't about the law or pregnancy or risks. It's about love."
"So if I love someone it's okay?" Dawn asked.
"I guess so," Buffy began. "If you love someone, and you know that you love them. Trust me, you'll know when you love someone. Then there'll be this moment when you feel so connected to them, that you feel like you have to connect to them...physically."
"So you're saying I'll know when I'm ready?" Dawn asked.
Buffy frowned. "I guess I am."
Dawn smiled and stood from the table, grabbing her schoolbag. "Thanks."
